SESAME STREET BIRTHDAY PARTY PLANNING TIPS
Who does your child like the most? Grover, Elmo, Big Bird? Zero in on your child’s favorite ones. Elmo has his very own pattern because he is so well loved by kids. You will find so many fun favors and party supply items that will make your party one that your child will never forget. Your child will love helping you plan for his/her special day. Your time spent with your child is precious. Making the planning part of the party will draw you both closer.
IMPORTANT!
Mom, you will do great putting this party together. All you need is a time line and a few close friends that you can delegate small jobs to on the day of the party. Sarah J. of New Jersey sent us an email telling us how happy her friends were to help. They all felt closer to her daughter because they felt they were not just “invited” to the party, but were actually participating. You can follow an easy time line at the Birthdaydirect site.
BIRTHDAY PARTY PLANNING TIP
If you feel comfortable, let your kids take a few photos at the party. It’s a fun activity and you know how easy it is to delete bad photos from a digital camera. Again, delegate someone to take pictures throughout the party.
Make sure one is taken of the parents with the child and the birthday cake. As the years go by it would be fun to stream the photos of each party on a DVD so you can have an awesome memory of your little one’s birthdays.
WHERE SHOULD WE PARTY?
Where would be the least stressful for you? Home? A neighborhood recreation center? Your church activities room? All these are great spots. Many have parties at zoos, skating rinks, and other places that kids enjoy. Think about what is best for you.
HOW LONG DOES A PARTY LAST?
Depending on the activities a normal party lasts about 1 and 1/2 hours to 2 hours. Enough time for games, entertainment, food and opening gifts. See the easy to follow time line at Birthdaydirect.
WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES SHOULD I DO WITH ALL THE KIDS?
First off, don’t fall apart at the thought of kids running wild at your party. Most kids have experienced several parties and know the common ground rules.
Have a simple game, like guessing how many jellybeans are in a jar when they begin coming in. Also have some bubbles or colors and coloring books with the Sesame Street design. I have found having a kids birthday CD is great. Play it as background music and then, again, when you play the games. Birthdaydirect has a good one called Happy Birthday Party Music.
When all the kids are present, choose about 3 or 4 activities or games.
- Big Bird’s Limbo- download a Limbo song and other callipso type music. If you don’t want to buy a real limbo set, a stick held lightly by 2 people will be fine.
- Oscar’s Rotten Potato- every kid loves this game. Delegate a friend to stop the music about every 7 seconds. Use a potato or a Sesame Street hand puppet they have at Birthdaydirect to pass around. When the music stops, whoever is holding the puppet gets a sticker, or other small prize. Last one wins the puppet!
- Elmo’s Pinata- Birthdaydirect has several that you can choose from. They are inexpensive and fun.
- Telly’s Story Time-Telly loves to tell stories. Read your child’s favorite story to the kids as a simple activity. You could do this at the very end when the kids are beginning to leave. A good settling down time!
- Elmo’s Party Game- Order this tried and true party game. It’s Elmo on a sheet of paper 12in. by 17in. Each child takes a turn trying to place an orange circle on Elmo’s nose while blind folded.
- Play the Hokey Poky song- Kids love this fun silly song they can dance and move to.
- Balloon catch- Put all kids in a circle play fun tunes. Have enough balloons for all except one. When the music stops, whoever does not have a balloon gets a coloring book.
- Pinata Fun- Always a great way to end a party! They are very popular now.
HOW SHOULD I DECORATE?
Wow! If you just used mylar balloons from this pattern, your party room would be FUN! FUN! FUN! The balloons for Sesame Street are shaped like, Elmo, Bert Ernie, and others.
There is a fun large 5 ft air walker that sort of floats as the breeze takes it. It looks like Big Bird and is so much fun. There is also an Elmo walker. Tie a balloon to the back of each chair for tons of smiles.
Use streamers with the Sesame Street pattern printed on them and colors that co ordinate with this pattern. Birthday direct already has colors picked so that is one less thing you need to worry about.
WHAT SHOULD I FEED EVERYONE?
Of course cake and ice cream will be the main course of any birthday party… Make sure you display the cake on the party table for all to enjoy and drool over. Don’t hide it in the kitchen. After spending so much time making your awesome cake you want to show it off.
Birthdaydirect has some great Sesame Street cake pans and really unusual and fun candles and cupcake toppers. Ask your birthday child what kind of cake he/she would like? They will be happy to help you make their special cake or cupcakes. Again, you are making great memories for your child even before the party begins.
Below are some stress free ideas for party foods that always are a hit.
- BIG BIRD’S LITTLE SANDWICHES cut in basic shapes. You might even add a little food coloring by painting smiles lightly on the bread slices.
- COOKIE MONSTER MINI COOKIES,Pretzels, chips etc. served in Fun Sesame Street bowls
- OSCAR’S PUNCH- 1 can of frozen juice, 3 cups of non fat milk and 1 pint of sherbert. Serve in Sesame Street sippy cups for big smiles.
- FRIENDLY FRUIT- with a sweet yogurt dip
